Neurological Sciences Institute

This three-story research facility is home to two programs on the Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU)’s West Campus. Two-thirds of the building supports the Neurological Sciences Institute, which performs biomolecular, physiological and behavioral research. The remainder supports the expansion of OHSU’s vaccine and gene therapy program, including research labs, lab support, a BSL-3 lab, a vivarium, offices and staff support areas. Site organization and circulation were critically important design factors, given the sensitive nature of the research performed. Separate loading facilities for the vivarium and the general building service are provided in a secure service yard discreetly located at basement level and screened from view.
